What is Glacial Drift?
Glacial Drift is a semi-regular zine dedicated to comix and narrative illustration/art. Each issue features work by current creators, a featured artist interview, and reviews of small press or self-published zines or books.
Glacial Drift is distributed for free to contributors, local shops, zine libraries, and other interested parties. The current distribution is 300 copies.
Glacial Drift does not publish work utilizing AI models or tools. Our primary focus is on works created by traditional artistic means and skills. We accept all mediums including digital without the assistance of AI.
There is no submission fee.
Glacial Drift Guidelines
Submissions for Glacial Drift are currently open.
- We currently accept sequential or single panel comics. We also consider illustrations or artwork with implied or explicit narrative qualities. Narrative qualities may be surreal or subtle.
- You must have created the work and have the rights to allow Glacial Drift to publish it.
- The work was created without the assistance of AI tools.
- We do not publish fan art for other existing properties.
- We accept mature content.
- We accept previously published work or excerpts. Please provide citations of where the work originally appeared. This can include your own self-published works.
- Glacial Drift pays a stipend for accepted submissions on acknowledgement of acceptance for publication. Our rates are $25/page, $15/partial page, and $50/exterior cover art. All funds are in US currency and paid digitally via Venmo, Velle, or PayPal.
- Creators published in Glacial Drift receive 10 contributor copies. International contributor copies may be delayed by international shipping issues.
- Glacial Drift will only physically publish your work one time with no reprints. Artist retains all rights to their submitted work. Glacial Drift is not digitally distributed. Glacial Drift will use photos of completed issues featuring the exterior art, or request creators allow usage of sample interior pieces to be included in posts or graphics promoting an issue of Glacial Drift on release. Glaze and Nightshade will be used for online images we post.
- Covers of submitted publications will be used online to accompany our archive of reviews. Glaze and Nightshade will be used for online images we post.
- Glacial Drift will archive published interviews online. We will ask permission to include any accompanying examples of the artist’s work. Glaze and Nightshade will be used for online images we post.
- Glacial Drift does not accept all submitted work for publication.
- Submissions that promote hate speech, discrimination, sexism, transphobia, racism, or related violence will not be accepted.
To submit your work for consideration, please follow these guidelines and complete our submission form.
- You may submit up to 20 pages of material per submission.
- You may submit to Glacial Drift once every six months.
- Single story arcs can be up to 10 pages in length. Longer stories should be self-contained.
- Glacial Drift is published as a 6″x9″ staple bound booklet. All art should be formatted for this page size. Allowing for a 1/8″ bleed for full page art.
- Submissions should be submitted in the TIF file format.
- Submissions should be 300dpi.
- Work may be submitted in black/white or color.
- Color submissions should be in CMYK.
- Please share your submission with us using an online link. We prefer recognized services like Proton Drive, OneDrive, or Google Docs. Links should not expire less than 30 days after submission date. And please supply a password in your submission if needed.
